For some reason I thought being courageous would be easy. That was quite wrong.

Every time I accept one of my excuses, my regard for myself goes down.
Every time I keep a commitment to myself, my regard for myself goes up.
So simple to understand, the application is a different matter.

I used to think I could control my emotions.
Whole schools of philosophy are built on this premise.
I’ll save you the time: that doesn’t work.
To master my emotions, I must allow them to be, and experience them as they are.
Only then can I let them go.

I discover the book I want to write only after I begin the book I thought I was supposed to write.

I’ve learned to pay attention to what I envy.
It tells me what I really want, but am afraid of admitting to myself.
